Grand Theft Auto IV
Grand Theft Auto IV is a sandbox-style action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North,[14] and released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC video game consoles in Europe, North America and Oceania, on 29 April 2008,[15] and in Japan on 30 October 2008.[16] A Windows version of the game was released in North America on 2 December 2008 and in Europe on 3 December.[5][6][4] It was made available on Steam on 4 January 2009.[17] It is the sixth 3D game in the Grand Theft Auto series.
Two episodic packs have since been released for the Xbox 360, the first entitled The Lost and Damned, released on 17 February 2009. The second is entitled The Ballad of Gay Tony, released on 29 October 2009.[18][19] Both episodes were released for PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows on 13 April 2010[20] in North America and on 16 April[20] 2010 in Europe.[21]
The game is set in a redesigned rendition of Liberty City, a fictional city based heavily on modern day New York City. It follows Niko Bellic, a war veteran from an unspecified country in Eastern Europe.[22] He comes to the United States in search of the American Dream,[23] but quickly becomes entangled in a world of gangs, crime, and corruption. Like other games in the series, GTA IV is composed of elements from driving games and third-person shooters, and features "open-world" gameplay that gives players more control over their playing experience. It is the first console game in the series to feature an online multiplayer mode.
As the first game of the critically acclaimed series to appear on seventh generation consoles, Grand Theft Auto IV was widely anticipated. A major commercial and critical success, it broke industry records with sales of around 3.7 million units on its first day of release and grossing more than $500 million in revenue in the first week, selling an estimated 6 million units worldwide.[24][25] As of 9 June 2010, the game had sold over 17 million copies.[26] It is the all-time highest-scoring game on five professional critic review-aggregating websites: Metacritic,[27] MobyGames,[28] TopTenReviews,[29] GameRatio[30] and GameTab.
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (on SAMP)
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (commonly abbreviated as GTA: SA) is a sandbox-style action-adventure computer and video game developed by Rockstar North. It is the third 3D game in the Grand Theft Auto video game franchise, the fifth original console release and eighth game overall. Originally released for the PlayStation 2 in October 2004,[2] the game has since been ported to the Xbox and Microsoft Windows, and has received wide acclaim and high sales figures on all three platforms, and is the highest selling game of all time on PlayStation 2. It was made available on Steam on January 4, 2008.[9] Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was succeeded by Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and was preceded by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
The game is set in the fictional state of San Andreas, comprising three metropolitan cities, Los Santos, based on Los Angeles, San Fierro, based on San Francisco and Las Venturas, based on Las Vegas, with deserts, rivers, forests and even a mountain separating the cities. Set in late 1992,[10] San Andreas revolves around the gang member Carl "CJ" Johnson returning home from Liberty City to Los Santos, San Andreas, after learning of his mother's murder. CJ finds his old friends and family in disarray. Over the course of the game, CJ gradually unravels the plot behind his mother's murder while exploring his own business ventures. Like other games in the series, San Andreas is composed of elements from driving games and third-person shooters, and features "open-world" gameplay that gives the player more control over their playing experience. The game adds several features, such as car customization, and character personalization.
Much like the previous and future entries in the Grand Theft Auto series, San Andreas's critical and commercial success has not been without controversy. The most notable controversy was over the explicit "Hot Coffee" sex minigame found on the Microsoft Windows game, which was disabled but left within the game's code. Its discovery led San Andreas to be re-rated in the United States briefly as an adults only game and pulled from retailers' shelves in the US. After the 'Hot Coffee' minigame code was removed, the game was re-rated as M for mature again.
